Too much death - the sun is out and I want adventure.
I am going to change the color scheme for the blog.
Some random thoughts...
I LOVE this story from the NY Times.
It is from the On Location section.

(for the full story)
It is about a woman changing her life by embracing her love of design and creating a non-traditional home.
I am enchanted by this organization
Habitat For Artists
The blog for this organization is on Blogspot.

This is the beginning of an adventure. Somewhere between play, curiosity, possibility, outrage and a daughter's thought of 'what if?' Last night MyLife.com popped up and asked me if I would like to reconnect with Robert Caigan. It said that I can send him an email. My father died in 1978. Let's see what happens next...

Linked
I am not against search engines
that reunite or introduce people.
I merely think that it is prudent that the service tell you if the person is living or deceased. It is a matter of good manners. Or best business practices.
Facebook has set up memorial pages for people who have died.
This seems wise, though I wonder how long a time they maintain the page?
I have done something strange.
Some of you may be laughing because this entire blog and topic is strange...
something strange - even for me...
I googled "Linda Caigan", discovered that my mother is on LinkedIn, tried her usual password, and visited her page as Linda. She has one contact and one invitation to connect.
I considered taking it down, just canceling the account.
Then I had another idea.
We have already paid over $5,000 in death notice fees, perhaps this is another way to let people know that Linda has died?
I added a summary to her page regretting to inform people of her death.
I have no idea if anyone has read it.

Dear Administrators
Dear MyLife.com Administrators,
I went to the MyLife.com website in hopes of emailing you or contacting someone on the phone. There is no contact information.
The design for Mylife.com is fatally flawed.
My Father, Robert Allen Caigan died in 1978
and you have him listed as ALIVE.
You asked if I wanted to send him an email, which I did.
I have not heard back from you and for the sake of argument let me state that I do not expect to receive an email from him.
Please remove my father from your web site.
While you are at it, please update my mother, Linda Caigan, as deceased.
This is your MISSION STATEMENT:
Our Mission
Our mission at MyLife is to provide the most comprehensive people search service to help you easily find and stay connected with friends, family, loved ones and colleagues.
MyLife is the go-to people search site delivering accurate results and making staying connected easy.
I think that you are failing at your mission.
I want an apology.
Respectfully,
Bob's Daughter
aka Emily Caigan

Memory Has Just Been Sold
I go to Target because all things baby are there in one place.
Stores with fluorescent lights are challenging for me,
but I have come to like Target.
This is why I am appalled at the Liberty of London DISHES!!!
The ties are poor imitations,
the women's clothing is at best amusing and whimsical,
but the DISHES...well
they upset me.
This is why:
Clearly there is a license agreement.
The flowers have none of the depth in detail that I remember.
I formerly considered this clothing beautifully designed,
created with care and special. Now I have visions of women matching their table settings.
Seeing it in this new light
disturbs my memory.
I keep thinking of the J. Guiles song
My Angel's in the Centerfold
I suppose it is mature of the company to save itself by making more money.
I must remember the ties from my childhood as individual items.
They can no longer be a statement of sophistication.
I miss Liberty of London.
It was here even when Bob was not.
If I hadn't seen the new version my memory would still be intact.
I miss ideas.
I may be able to mourn a concept more easily than a person.

Same, but Different
Intelius.com has informed me with a red check next to each of the following categories that they have information on
Robert A. Caigan.
They are supposedly in possession of his...
Phone #
Address
Avg. Income
Relatives
I need to pay them for a subscription
in order to be given his phone number.
I am almost smiling writing this,
which is much better than the rage I felt ten minutes ago.
Imagine if it were true?
What would I pay for that phone number?
I wonder if this constitutes legal fraud?

Khem thinks that my humor on this blog is somewhere between Charles Shultz (Charlie Brown creator) and Morticia Addams. The best part of this description may be that one is a character and the other is a human. I always loved the play Six Character's In Search of An Author by Pirandello.
